Dear Congregation of New Summit,
We are extending to you and your
pastor a special invitation to join together to fast one 24 hour period a week through the month
of January 2010 as we begin a whole new opportunity and year. The time of
fasting would be from Tuesday after supper through Wednesday lunch. Together we
would skip breakfast and lunch on Wednesday and devote those two mealtimes, if
possible, to fasting-prayer that 2010 would be a year of great advancement in
the body of Christ- especially in Lee's Summit.
Everyone who is interested is
invited to join for worship and prayer on Wednesday mornings during January. We
will all meet at a neutral place- the smaller chapel at John Knox Village. The meeting time for prayer will
be Wednesday from 6:30am to 8:00 am. This way those who
have to work might be able to stop and participate even for 10 or 15 minutes
before they go to work. This would be something very significant that would
together glorify God and seek Him first at the beginning of this New
Year.
What would we be fasting for
together?
1. Our loved
ones to be made right with God. Most of us have people in our
close family (a brother, a sister, a son, a daughter, an aunt or uncle, a
parent or grandparent, a grandson or granddaughter, a wife or husband,) that we
deeply and profoundly love. There is no personal request in our hearts more
important to us than that they come to know Christ and walk closely with Him.
We would be joining together to ask God to draw them to Himself. We want to see
them right with God to the point that we are willing to fast each week asking
God to graciously answer our prayers.
2. That our
individual churches and other churches in Lee's Summit will be greatly strengthened to be
able to comprehend what is the width and length and depth and height of the love
of Christ.
Ephesians 3-- "that He would grant
you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through
His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts
through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in
love, may be able to comprehend with all
the saints what is the width and length and depth and
height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled
with all the fullness of God."
3. That the
church at large and especially the church of Lee's
Summit would move toward the true biblical intent of "oneness" that Jesus
prayed in John 17.
"I do not pray for these alone, but
also for those who will believe in Me through their
word; that they all may be one, as You,
Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also
may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent
Me."
4. That we would
be willing to be open to the leading of God through His Word, to pursue God in
prayer and ask, "Where do we go from here?"
Acts 13:1-3-- Just as the early
church sought out God's will in prayer and fasting so will we. They were hungry
enough for God's leading that they wanted to say it with the hunger of their
bodies and not just the hunger of their hearts. "We want your leading, O God! O
Holy Spirit, what is your will for the mission of churches in Lee's Summit who love You
and love Your Word?"
