Financial Peace Quote of the Week, Scripture of the Week, and Thought of the Week
Momentum: New Life at New Summit!
Imagine…
-
The energy of 200 to 300 people from our community…
-
All ages and situations…
-
Friends, family, neighbors and colleagues…
-
Long-time church members, newcomers, strangers, the curious and the questioning…
-
Learning, growing, hurting or getting stronger.
Now, combine that energy with a tested and proven program that delivers people from financial bondage and sets people on the course to financial freedom, Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.
Finally, imagine a season in the life of our congregation where our primary focus is devoted to creating that kind of energy and seeing the results of that kind of a program.
What do you have… Momentum!
Momentum is coming this fall to New Summit. We are shifting the largest part of our programming and focus to one of the most significant issues challenging our congregation and community: financial bondage. This is not a stewardship campaign. This is not a way to solicit donations. This is not a plan to make people guilty. This is a strategy to transform lives, set people free, and help people to discover and hear the good news of God’s giving love in the midst of one of their financial challenges.
Q: What is the Goal?
A: New Summit’s Momentum goal is to take 200-300 people through Financial Peace University (FPU) at the same time in the fall of 2011.
Q: Who will participate?
A: Everyone: FPU alumni, newcomers, and everyone in between, regardless of your current financial situation. We will even have programming for all ages from children through adult.
Q: What if I’ve been through FPU before?
A: We are asking everyone to attend again! There is no cost to FPU graduates, and plenty of reasons to go through the course a second (or third!) time:
-
Review missed lessons
-
Get back on track
-
Work on another of the baby steps
-
Get a family member on board
-
Teach these principles to your kids
-
Invite a friend, family member, neighbor or colleague
-
Invite someone who isn’t connected with a church
Q: When are the Classes?
A: We are just beginning to schedule classes, but we will have a large number of classes on nearly every day of the week!
Q: When does it all start?
A: Kickoff Sunday will be August 28, 2011.
FPU classes will begin the week of September 11, 2011.
A message series connected with the Momentum theme will begin November 6, 2011.
FPU classes will end the week of December 4, 2011.
Celebration Sunday will be on December 11, 2011.
Q: How do I get involved?
A: Our Momentum Leadership team is meeting and planning now: Pastor Dave Moore (Leadership), Jen Gordon (Education), Shamus Johnson (Prayer), Brent Trout (Strategic Tracking), Matt Starr (Promotion) and Pearle Pruitt (Special Opportunities). We have a spot on the Leadership Team for someone to coordinate our Celebration Team. In addition, we need everyone to pray about this church-wide focus, to sign up for FPU classes as they are listed, and to invite others to participate as we move toward our goal.
Q: What will the different teams do?
-
Leadership Team: main line of communication between other teams, staff and church leaders. Staying in touch with the Momentum staff at Dave Ramsey’s office. Utilizing Basecamp, a project planning software.
-
Prayer Team: leading the church to pray over Momentum. Helping to make the congregation more aware of God’s activity and embrace His leading. Momentum is setting a goal so big that only God can accomplish the goal. Prayer paves the way, keeps us encouraged, and inspires us to connect with God in our personal lives.
-
Education Team: making sure every age group hears and understands the biblical truths taught in Momentum. The primary objectives are to put 200 to 300 people through FPU and to coordinate the five-week Momentum teaching series.
-
Promotion Team: the voice of Momentum, creating awareness of all aspects of this initiative to the congregation and the community.
-
Celebration Team: planning and celebrating special milestones and events throughout the Momentum journey. The major project for this team is orchestrating Celebration Sunday on December 11, but they will also organize celebrations throughout Momentum.
-
Special Opportunities Team: this team is designed to lead the church family to give generously by creating opportunities that allow everyone to give. God desires everyone to be involved in these exciting, unifying activities, and in individual, random acts of kindness.
-
Strategic Tracking Team: this team tracks the church's progression toward unstoppable Momentum! Highly detailed people will love being on the Strategic Tracking Team. This team will compile and document statistics on every aspect of Momentum, realizing that numbers represent actual lives being changed! How much debt have we paid off? How much have we saved? What baby steps have been accomplished? How are lives being changed? How is financial freedom allowing people to live and give in ways that are changing lives and creating a legacy?
Q: What Next?
A: Stay tuned. Look for announcements of class times and dates . Pray about getting involved on one of the teams. Contact the church office (816-246-7474 or

) or Pastor Dave (

) with questions or to volunteer. Start compiling a list of people you know who need Financial Peace University! Pray for them. Trust God to provide opportunities for an invitation. Invite! Spread the word.
The Momentum Equation:
Fi: Focused Intensity
T: Time
G: God
M: Momentum
Focused Intensity, Over Time, multiplied by God, equals Momentum!
