Sister Maryann in Haiti has been New Summit's contact with the Boyer House Orphanage. She sent the following update to Robyn Fate in response to her email.
Hello
Robyn.
I have only a minute
but want to let you know I did receive your note.
I have not been to
Darlene's for a couple of weeks. The kids were here on Jan 2 as they always
come to sing, etc. Each year they come on that date. I do not know if she has
taken in any additional children. It is too early to determine anything with
much clarity. There are so many people still trying to come out from PAP (Port au Prince).
There are many children who lost parents but most are with families. It is a
little while afterwards when they determine that they are really unable to
provide for the children and send they to an "orphanage". I do not know how
many real "orphans" Darlene has. As far as I know her "paperwork" might be a
little unclear/lacking/whatever. What is important to her is that the children
get the care they need in a loving home. And that she provides.
I will try to get down
to talk to her before too long. Not this week, however. Prices are rising,
certainly. But provisions are starting to come into town little by little. This
should help maintain stable prices. What we need is fuel and cooking gas as
well as medical supplies for the hospital. Many, many people are willing to
help. Another woman has decided to help Darlene and two other orphanages. This
just started in January. I hope she continues! They all need
it.
Thanks for your
continued concern. Please thank your church also.
Sr.
Maryann
