The Story

In January 2007 Robyn Fate of Lee's Summit, Mo. received a phone call from her brother, Tom Herhusky. At the time he was working in Haiti for the Haitian Health Foundation as the Director of Administration and Finance. He'd met a woman named Darlene Boyer through chance and learned of her dire situation. A visiting American some time before had charged her with the task of finding orphans that had no home and bringing them together with the promise of continuing financial support after leaving. After this American had left Haiti, she heard from that person no more.

Darlene kept the children under her care renting a 600-square-foot, 2-room hut. As her personal reserves began to run down, the children sometimes didn't get a meal at all in a day, their education was minimal at best, and anything else would be hopeful. Tom's heart was touched and as he shared the story with his sister, Robyn, her heart was moved as well. What began as boxing up some of her own daughters clothing to send to the orphans turned into an enormous two-day garage sale in March with donations from all over town raising over $3800. Enough funds to feed the children every day to last through the end of the year and provide basic supplies such as toilet paper and soap.

Many hearts have not forgotten these children and a special offering was taken for the children during the Christmas Eve service of 2007. The offering was over $5000 that night then with additional offerings continuing to come in the amount is now over $6000. Enough money to feed, support and educate the children, now 45 children strong!!

 The  Mission

One could never have imagined the overwhelming response. A testament to the power of the Holy Spirit and our Lord Jesus Christ and His love for these children and Darlene.

And He's not done!

A team of people being led by the Holy Spirit came together to begin the discovery of what God's plan is for serving His children in Haiti. The fact-finding team traveled to Haiti March 7 - 10, 2008 to begin the journey of a deeper relationship with Darlene and these children and how we can be active and effective where God is already at work.

How You Can Help

Prayer, Prayer, Prayer!

We're asking everyone to pray for God's direction and the willingness for every person to be open to however He's calling you to participate and on His timing. When the Holy Spirit brings it to your mind, say whatever He prompts you to say. Pray for the leaders of the Haiti Orphanage Mission, pray for how to move forward, pray for people to be listening to His direction. Pray for yourself to be open to direction. He may be prompting you to do something uncomfortable. He may not be prompting you to do anything but prayer. But prayer must envelope it all.
